Profile of Boxing Referee Robert Byrd

August 31, 2017

Though it pales to the amount that Mayweather and McGregor made during last weekend's spectacle, there was a third individual in the ring that also enjoyed a big payday for the big fight.

As they say in basketball, Robert Byrd "let them play," and in my opinion, didn't overreact to the moments when McGregor reverted back to some of his MMA instincts. It got me to thinking: how does one become a boxing referee? It is not a sport you can pick up via a high school association. There are no 4th grade boxing matches at the Y you can use to develop your skills. This is the one sport I'm assuming you have to have been at one point a fighter in order to have ANY credibility within the boxing community. Does anybody know? Give your thoughts in the comments!
