In case you are not fan of social media (and many of our members share your sentiment), a majority of our updates concerning upcoming tournaments, new accounts, or articles about officiating will be copied here within a few hours of their original publication on our Facebook page.

We nonetheless encourage you to "Like" and "Follow" our Facebook page to get these posts as soon as they come in and to participate in the many excellent discussions we share with other members and referees nationwide.  We also have a YouTube channel in development and our founder, Chris Balasinski, maintains a Instagram account that is not solely about officiating, but offers a glimpse into the private life of our busy assignor.

Note: As of launch, we are still working on transferring some of our 2016 posts onto this blog for archival as well as the photos for many past entries.  It is one heck of a data entry project.  We should be at 100% by January 2018.

The call was right — Kevin Durant "starfished" but never had control of the ball after the dribble in order to put up a shot — and the ejection was easy. The line of the night came at the post-game interviews...

Kerr was asked what Durant said to get tossed.

A great take by First Take with Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman. 15 years and only one ejection!? Hell of a run, LBJ.

NBA guidelines on flagrant fouls include an assessment of the defender's wind-up, impact, and follow-through in determining whether a foul deserves to be upgraded. This play doesn't jump out as an obvious flagrant (considering it's two laboring centers in the open cour...

Ready or not, RefUnion.net is finally online! It seems amazing that we've gone so long without a website.  All our clients and our incredible union has grown to over 400 referees all come through word of mouth without a true online presence.  Well, now we have one!  M...

It's been a long journey throughout October; the Ref Union presiding over 6 tournaments in 7 weekends. As we approach the stretch run at the Los Angeles Elite West Coast Invitational, select refs will be mic'ed up for their games; ensuring proper standards of sportsman...

November 9, 2017

Hey everybody, I've been hard at work on the new website (RefUnion.net) that I almost missed posting a few really unique recent plays from around the NBA. For example: this rare offensive FLAGRANT foul by Russell Westbrook (on a jump shot, no less!)

The savvy NBA observ...

Well that's rather refreshing. I wish we saw more of this at the lower level. All coaches lose themselves in the moment sometimes. But it takes having a good head on one's shoulder to recognize when you crossed the line and apologize the next day.
